Upon receiving your order of Banitch we recommend you check to see if your BanItch bugs are moving around the environment inside the bucket.
They are very small, but with good eyesight you should be able to see them. Any form of magnification can be helpful though.
A spoon full in a pile in the middle of piece of plain white paper, like printer paper also works well. As the bugs move out of the media and fan out in search of food, they start moving across the paper and are more visible.
They will look like cream coloured dots, some people say they look a bit like a Tick in shape. It might take a minute or two to see them moving about, so be patient.
Upon release, ideally you would look to first treat shady, mulchy, damp but not soggy spaces. Like well mulched garden beds and shady areas, or areas that are more natural and less manicured. These spaces make for great a breeding environment that can work like a nursery for the bugs to move out from.
We usually recommend using a teaspoon or dessertspoon as a measure and distribution method. Simply scoop out a spoonful and flick, drop, or sprinkle BanItch anywhere there is a suitable environment.
For good coverage you should be looking to place some every 1 or 2 steps. As you get further away from the area that needs the most treatment, you can spread it thinner by taking more steps between deployments.
Ideally you would put them out in suitable areas first, then those areas you specifically want treated, like around outdoor seating, BBQ areas, ect, then in the less suitable environments. They will travel so a good home is more important than an even spread.
If there is any leftover you can broad cast them out over lawns, gardens, nature strips, or over neighbours’ fences into their gardens.
We recommend releasing your bugs as soon as you can upon receiving them, and within 24 hours. As they are a live insect they do not have a long shelf life.
They leave here with full bellies, but we cannot ship them with a food supply. So the longer they are in the bucket, the less you will have in the bucket. Place bucket in a cool but not cold place – above 12° until you release them if there will be a delay in release.
DO NOT- refrigerate under any circumstance.
Cooler temperatures will slow BanItch down to the point where they will stop moving. So seeing them in their environment becomes more difficult if the environment is cool as they very similar in colour to the media and just seem to disappear, when they are not actually moving.
